Good morning those who struggle with loss

I’ve just heard about a couple of people who passed away suddenly. There is soberness when we are confronted with death. It is never easy for those who are close.

Is there any hope in death? Can there be peace for those who mourn? Are there any words of comfort from God’s precious Word?

Grieving over the loss of a loved one is not wrong; it is necessary and right. Some people do not give themselves permission to grieve. There is a false thought for some of needing to be strong. Jesus, in everything, is our model and He wept when Lazarus died and Martha and Mary were grieving.

John 11:32-36 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw Him, she fell at His feet and said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” He asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, ”See how He loved him!”

Mary shared her heart and her questions with Jesus about her brother’s death. It didn’t make sense. Jesus could have saved him. Where were You Lord? Jesus did not stop and rebuke her but He was moved deeply by her grief and by His love for Lazarus.

Jesus does not condemn you in your time of grief and questioning. He reaches out to us. He knows what you are feeling and He grieves with you in your time of pain.

If you have lost a loved one and feel deep sorrow, I pray God touches your heart and that you feel Jesus close, not far off. He knows. He sees. He cares. He loves you.
