Good morning people who honour the biblical pattern of honouring leadership.

Exodus 32:1 NIV When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

A sign that people are heading down the wrong path is disrespect in their language when they talk about their leaders.

It’s interesting that the children of Israel had not forgotten what Moses had done for them. In this verse above, they acknowledge that Moses had brought them out of Egypt. This is no small thing that Moses had done for them. They knew that Moses had been instrumental for bringing them out of slavery.

You would think that this would result in a lifetime of respect and honour. But no, people can be very fickle.

They thought that Moses should be down with them, not up the mountain with the Lord. Oh wow, this is significant!

Permit me to speak directly to you today. The primary responsibility of your pastors is not to continually be with you and meet your needs. Their primary responsibility is to be with the Lord and to minister to you and equip you from the overflow of this continual time with God. I hope you got that.

But when we make ourselves the primary focus of what our leaders should be doing, disrespect will creep in. Notice the Israelites language: ‘As for this fellow Moses.’ It reeks of disrespect and entitlement. And these are two enemies of God’s intention that must be dealt a death blow in the days that we are living in.

Is your expectation of your leaders in the right place?

Is your respect for them evidenced in your language and conversations about them?

It’s time to honour those that God has put in a position of leadership.
