#5629 – Christ the Lord

Good morning people who don’t reduce Christ the Lord down to lyrics in a Christmas Carol.

Ephesians 1:2 NIV Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The word ‘Lord’ when referring to Jesus means ‘supreme in authority.’

The name ‘Jesus’ means ‘Jehovah is salvation.’ It comes from words that declare ‘Yhwh-saved.’ And this finds its origin in ‘the self-existent or eternal; name of God.’

The name ‘Christ’ means ‘anointed’ and comes from the word meaning to smear or rub with oil.’

Jesus was anointed by the Father in heaven through the power of the Holy Spirit. He was not just a natural man doing a good job. He was fully endowed with power from above.

Luke 4:14 NIV Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

A few verses later, this is what Jesus declared about Himself:

Luke 4:18-19 NIVThe Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

The Lord Jesus, who humbled Himself to being a man, was able to achieve the redemption and salvation of the world because He was anointed by God. His kingdom assignment was able to be achieved because He did everything in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the anointing covering Him.

This too is how we are called to live and complete our kingdom assignments. In and of ourselves, we are very insufficient. But when we are anointed, anything that is authored by God is possible in and through God!

The Lord Jesus Christ – He is our God! Hallelujah!
