#1041 – Every Thought

Good morning people with the mind of God

“Yeah, but what does God say about this?”

This is a question we need to ask often. The reason I wrote “Yeah, but…” here is because many times our starting point is replacing existing thoughts and feelings with the truth of what God says.

2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Without minimising your situation, let me elevate the Word of God to the place of sovereignty today.

The original meaning of this verse is not just talking about taking captive every bad and evil thought. I looked at what the word every meant before the word thought. Obviously I know what it means: every means every. But God wanted to speak to me…and He wants to speak to you today.

The word every here means: including all reasonable, logical and understandable thoughts.

Oh this is profound and life-changing!

There are many reasonable, logical and understandable thoughts that we need to make obedient to Christ: to the mind and will of God for us.

When we are deeply hurt, it is reasonable and understandable to think that we can’t forgive, that we can’t trust again. When we have failed many times in a certain area, it is reasonable and understandable to believe that we can’t be free and overcome. When God asks us to do something beyond our means, it is logical and reasonable to think that we can’t do it.

And it is often the reasonable, logical and understandable thoughts that keep us from having the mind of God.
