#1068 – Above All

Good morning people who talk to God

Prayer is such an integral part of every Believer’s life. In fact, it is so important that Jesus gave us some clarity on how to pray. I know there has been plenty of teaching on ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ but I think we would all do well to frequently revisit some key components of prayer and our focus when we pray. Over the next few days I want to simply mention a few things I see as I read the following passage.

Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV) In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven…God is higher, greater and above all. We need to pray with a focus on God and His supremacy. He is not the first among equals; He is above all.

I am also drawn to the fact that God is our Father. He is unlike any earthly Father, regardless of how good or bad your experience has been with your earthly father. God the Father is always working for our best and doing a good work in us.

And although this passage says ‘Our Father in heaven’ He is not limited to or only in heaven. This is speaking more about God’s level of authority rather than His location; He is above all.

I want to once again point us to the truth that God is everywhere present. Remember this quote from A.W.Tozer in ‘The Pursuit of God’ (Kingsway Publications):

“No one is in mere distance any further from or any nearer to God than any other person.”

So as we pray let’s remember we are talking to our Father in heaven.
