#871 – Based On Truth

Good morning people living in God’s love

Romans 2:1-4 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgement on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgement do the same things. Now we know that God’s judgement against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgement on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgement? Or do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance and patience, not realising that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?

Oh how incredibly different God is to us.

There’s a warning here for us not to judge others. The reason given is that we judge from a place of falling short ourselves. Sure it might be in different ways, but we are all imperfect vessels on a journey of becoming more like our Creator. My experience is that when I judge others, I myself feel condemned.

God alone is the only righteous Judge.

God’s judgement is always based on truth. It is not emotionally based nor does it come from an imperfect vessel. God judges righteously because He is righteous. God judges in accordance with the truth, His truth, because He is the truth.

It’s also interesting and powerful to note that God’s focus is not exacting judgement as we would perceive it; a judgement based on punishment, but rather lovingly drawing people towards repentance and a changed lifestyle. It’s not God’s big stick that makes people repent
