#5961 – Clothed in Gentleness

Good morning people who choose to put on the right garments each day.

Galatians 5:25 NIV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Philippians 4:5 NIV Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

This verse from Philippians is a verse that I have quoted often. And yet, it is a truth that I believe stands as an invitation into greater reality for us all.

Gentleness is evidence that God is near. Please read this again.

I hear the Lord say, “A lack of gentleness is often evidence of a focus on self.”

When we are at the centre of our own desires, we can easily become intolerant of others. Criticism and negative reactions can easily flow, rather than a loving and kind response that comes from the fruit of the Spirit of Gentleness who lives in us.

Gentleness is not weakness. Jesus was not weak – far from it – and yet His gentleness was evident to all. People encountered Jesus and they encountered kindness and gentleness that literally changed their lives.

What do people encounter when they encounter us?

Colossians 3:12 NIV Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

What do you put on when you get up in the morning?

I’m not talking about your natural clothes – I’m talking about your spiritual position and posture of heart. The truth is, you do put something on – conscious or otherwise. Therefore, let us all be more intentional to go out into our day dressed in the right robes.

I see the people of God dressed and clothed in gentleness.
